USU Board of Trustees celebrates 20th anniversary
On January 13, the Board of Trustees of Ulyanovsk State University celebrated its 20th anniversary with a festive ceremony and a concert by top USU performers held at the largest city venue, Lenin Memorial Center. Among guests of honor at the event were Mayor of Ulyanovsk, Marina Bespalova, deputy chair of regional government, Vildan Zinnurov, chair of regional Legislative Assembly, Boris Zotov.
In accordance with long-established tradition, the Board publicly acknowledged those who had made the most significant contributions to its growth and development over the last year. Recipients of the special annual Board of Trustees Award included Tatiana Nikitina, vice rector for international relations, youth policy and social work, Sergey Panchenko, chief physician of the regional oncology hospital, Inna Tsvetkova, director of Mariinsky secondary school, Alexander Shkanov, director of a municipal construction company.
In his welcome address to the audience, the Board chair, USU president Yuri Polyanskov, pointed out that he sees one of the Board’s main tasks as attracting more alumni to donate to its Alma Mater.
USU was among the first Russian higher educational institutions to establish a Board of Trustees, which currently has about 100 members.
