Internet Literacy Center

Internet Literacy Center was established in 2002 as a division of USU. In October, 2006 by the order of the USU Rector Internet Literacy Center was reorganized and placed under management of the Vice-Rector's Office for Quality and Innovative Educational Technologies. The School of Multimedia Technologies and Department for Electronic Publications were also incorporated into the Center.
The primary objective of the center is to provide retraining and further training for public officers of different levels and working in different areas. The further training is aimed at showing the students what modern information technologies, in particular the Internet, can do and how to use them for work. Duration of the training depends on the students' knowledge on the subject and reaches from 40 to 80 hours. On completing the training program the students get a USU Certificate or state-recognized Certificate of further training with the indicated number of hours (depending on the duration of training).
As part of the projects Open world of Information Technologies and Your course: Computer Literacy carried out by Microsoft Corporation and non-commercial corporation Project Harmony, Inc. Online Education Centre has been running courses on computer literacy for disadvantaged social groups. So far over 3000 people including the retired, unemployed, disabled, and public officers have mastered computer skills for free. One can acquire computer literacy not only in Online Education Centre, but also in computer classrooms of our partners:
- Representative office of USU in the industrial settlement of Novospasskoye
- Comprehensive secondary school № 1 of the industrial settlement of Nikolaevka
- Town lyceum of Dimitrovgrad
In addition to trainings Online Education Centre holds contests and workshops on interesting for different social groups topics. Furthermore, it has become a tradition to organize various events for schoolchildren during the holidays. In the last five years of Centre's work over 3500 people from Ulyanovsk region and neighbouring regions have taken part in the contests and workshops.
Applications can be submitted and contracts are drawn up all year round in USU Internet Literacy Center.
