USU celebrates Day of Knowledge
2019-09-02 09:36

On September 2, the preeminent university of the region opened its doors for freshmen. This year, the family of Ulyanovsk State University became larger by almost 4 thousand students.

By tradition, Knowledge Day started with a solemn line-up at the stadium of USU. The first-year students were congratulated and addressed by the university leaders and guests of honor: USU Rector Boris Kostishko and President of USU Yuri Polyanskov, State Duma deputy Marina Bespalova and director of the Ulyanovsk branch of Rostelecom PJSC Elena Alpova.

Boris Kostishko congratulated freshmen on entering the flagship university, the number of which is only 33 throughout the country, and noted: “This year the average competition was almost 10 people per place, and for some courses and programs more than 50 people per place. The university provides excellent opportunities for professional growth and development: research laboratories, sports facilities. But you must achieve everything yourself. No wonder the slogan that we have chosen is ancient Chinese wisdom: "The teacher opens the door, and you enter yourself."

After the opening ceremony of the holiday, a solemn moment came – the initiation into first year students. Freshmen were invited to the stage. Many of them had already showed brilliant results in mastering knowledge at school: they passed the  Unified State Exam with 100 points or became winners of All-Russian Olympiads, competitions and contests, were awarded for their participation in interesting projects. The students were given the symbols of students: a key of knowledge, a student ID and a record book. Then the anthem of the students of Gaudeamus sounded.

The atmosphere of the holiday throughout the event was supported by creative groups: the cover band “Catherine Boys”, the choir of the USU music school, the circus studio “Impulse” and the vocal group “Jam”.

The solemn ceremony ended with the launch of balloons with notes where newly-made students wrote about their plans and dreams.
