History of the department
The department of infectious diseases as an independent structural division of the faculty was founded on 28.08.1995 by order No. 118 according to the curriculum for senior students of the medical faculty on the programs «Infectious Diseases» and «Epidemiology». The clinical base of the program «Infectious diseases» from the moment of its foundation and to the present is the Municipial healthcare institution, the Central City Clinical City hospital of Ulyanovsk (the chief physician – Suchkov Vladimir Nikolaevich).
The Regional center of prevention and fight against AIDS and infectious diseases (the chief physician – Ibragimova S. H.) was the major facility of the program "Epidemiology" till 2000. From 2000 to 2008 classrooms for instruction were located in the building on Pushkarev Street (in the kindergarten building). Now teaching epidemiology is conducted at the USU college which is situated at the address: 1, Sholmov Street.
In the structure of subjects instructed by the department of infectious diseases with an epidemiology cycle on November 11, 1998 the cycle of skin and venereal diseases was introduced which originally was a part of the department of valueology, then – the department of post-degree training of doctors. The person is in charge of the course of skin and venereal diseases from 2001 is MD, professor Nesterov A.S. The instructional base for students is the Regional clinical skin and venereologic clinic (the chief physician – Magomedov M. A.).
From November, 1999 to 2008 the course «Tropical diseases» was provided for the foreign students who are trained at the medical faculty. Now in connection with insignificant number of students from the countries of Africa and Southeast Asia this discipline is taught in an individual order at the students’ request. Work is conducted on the basis of the Regional center of the State epidemic supervision agency (the chief physician – Merkulov A.V.).
Doctor of medical sciences, honored worker of science, professor Evgeny Stepanovich Belozerov was the organizer and the first head of the department (1995-1996).
Senior students of the medical faculty are trained at the department on programs: «Medical care», «Pediatrics». Annually about 500 students are trained.
Staff of the department conducts instruction, retraining of specialists and listeners of the faculty of post-degree, additional and higher education in nursing care.
The department offers elective courses for final year students of the program "Medical Care" on a subject: «Important aspects of HIV/AIDS treatment, haemocontact viral hepatitises» in volume of 180 hours.
To raise the quality of training for students, clinical interns and residents work is constantly carried out by the staff members of the department on working out methodical textbooks and monographs.
Since 2000 the staff of the department published 10 monographs and more than 40 methodical materials on important problems of infectology, dermatovenereology and epidemiology.
