Education and Information Center of the Federal Computer Network RUNNet
The federal university computer network of Russia RUNNet forms the basis of the telecommunications infrastructure of the unified educational information environment and provides the access to the Russian and global academic resources for all the educational institutions.
RUNNet network was founded in 1994 to the extent of the state-run programmeThe Universities of Russia" as an IP-based network uniting the regional networks and the networks of large educational institutions.
The main task of RUNNet is the single information space of the Russian educational sphere and its integration with the global information space, international cooperation in the domain of science and education.
Currently RUNNet is the largest Russian educational information IP-based network providing services for more than 400 universities and other educational and research institutions involved directly in RUNNet or through regional research and education networks.
The list of RUNNet users includes such large education and information networks as RBnet, FREEnet, RUHEP/Radio-MSU, RELARN-IP, the networks of Moscow and St. Petersburg state universities.
The network is run and developed by the State research institution of the information technologies and communications.
