June 22 - Day of Remembrance and Sorrow
Dear veterans of the Great Patriotic War and home front workers, dear Ulyanovsk residents! On this day we recall a sad date - the beginning of a heroic battle with fascism. President Vladimir Putin said that we have a time machine - this is history. It is necessary to carefully study it, to learn more from the past in order to foresee the future. That time goes further and fewer eyewitnesses of those terrible events remain, and our objective today is to preserve the memory of them and pass it down to future generations. On June 22, commemorative events dedicated to the 79th anniversary of the beginning of the most bloody war in the history of mankind are to be organized in our region.
We recall our fellow countrymen with great gratitude who rose then like an indestructible wall in the way of the Nazi hordes. 11044 veterans of the Great Patriotic War live in the region. Among them are 76 invalids of the Great Patriotic War, 232 veterans of military operations, 67 soldiers of the last military draft, 61 people awarded with the badge “Resident of the besieged Leningrad”, 100 juvenile prisoners of fascism, 7,878 home front workers, 2,630 widows of WWII veterans. We will take care of our heroes with all our efforts. Honor and glory to them!
Dear friends, recalling the tragic days of June 1941, we will be vigilant and organized, courageous and strong, we will further develop our beloved country, continue peaceful industrial and cultural construction, but at the same time do not forget the lessons of the past in order to clearly understand how there must be a future. I sincerely wish you good health, family comfort and prosperity, longevity and great happiness!
Governor of the Ulyanovsk Region Sergei Morozov.
