USU holds a meeting between the head of the region and representatives of the medical community
2020-06-04 14:26

Governor Sergei Morozov attended a meeting at the flagship university to discuss the issue of staffing medical institutions, the end of the academic year and the organization of internships for students and residents. The participants in the event were the executives of region agencies and the pre-eminent university, representatives of the medical community and future doctors of the Ulyanovsk region.

USU Rector Boris Kostishko and Andrei Peskov, the Dean of the Faculty of Post-diploma Medical and Pharmaceutical Education presented the Center for the Global Remote Monitoring System in the Ulyanovsk Region. The developed electronic health monitoring system has been successfully tested on students living in university residence halls.

Sergei Morozov thanked students who provided assistance to patients with coronavirus. “Today, all people who are at the forefront of the fight against the pandemic are heroes” the governor said and emphasized that the Ulyanovsk region was the first region to introduce additional measures to support students and residents - monthly payments of 5,000 rubles. After the opening speech, the head of the region awarded the doctors.

Maria Rogatkina, the deputy chairman of the board of the medical chamber of the Ulyanovsk region for work with young personnel spoke about measures of additional social support for medical workers and the project “Thank you, the doctors!”.

Lyudmila Belova, the dean of the Faculty of Medicine made a report on the results of the 2019-2020 academic year, the theory and practice of training doctors. One of the main achievements was the creation and equipment of the Multifunctional Rehabilitation Center of Ulyanovsk State University where classes, the testing of new techniques and assistance to patients with disorders of the central nervous system and musculoskeletal system are carried out. Last year, USU also organized the international contest of youth projects in the field of medical and non-medical rehabilitation “Rehabilitation +” which was attended by young scientists from Russia, China, Uzbekistan, India and Israel.

Since March 16, the educational process has been conducted remotely which allowed future doctors from other cities and countries to study online. In the future, remote areas of work will be expanded. One of the new projects in the digital environment was the creation of the “USU Virtual Clinic” - a simulator for teaching students in outpatient work which will help future doctors to work out practical methods when admitting patients, talking with the patient and working with paramedical staff.

At the end of the speech, Lyudmila Belova spoke about assistance to residents of the Ulyanovsk Region in the pandemic and self-isolation: “Senior students are actively involved in the fight against COVID-19 in medical institutions, members of the“Medical Volunteers” movement, led by student Kristina Antonova, organize delivery of food and medicines to the elderly. In addition, during the pandemic period, a project “Be healthy with USU!” was launched at our university. It is presented on online platforms and includes webinars, individual psychological consultations, blogs, microlectures and master classes by USU teachers and invited specialists, tests, contests, information and entertainment collections for children and adults. A separate section is dedicated to supporting doctors and nurses in the face of extreme overload and stress”.

Summing up the meeting, Governor Sergei Morozov said that in the near future he plans to sign a number of agreements with USU and in particular with the Faculty of Medicine.
