The project implementation of USU virtual clinic goes on
A virtual simulator for training students to work in a polyclinic setting will allow future doctors to develop their practical skills while examining patients, the manner of communicating with the patient and work with the paramedical staff. The other day, Boris Kostishko the USU Rector familiarized himself with the progress of the project.
The simulator provides for the creation of three so-called “avatars” - a doctor, a nurse and a patient. A medical student who is studying to be a doctor, a student of USU medical college, getting secondary medical education, or a teacher can work in the “body” of each of them. The virtual process will be linked with the real conditions of a regional student clinic, its digital model is being developed. In addition to doctors, students of programs related to information technology and design were involved in the creation of the simulator.
Boris Kostishko says that the game scenario is better than any “serious” tasks to train students for gaining professional skills. In addition, the implementation of the project makes it possible to solve the problem of student employment, identified today by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation: a virtual clinic is a fully student project.
“Medical students offered to work on practical materials to gain skills in clinical disciplines studied after the third year” says Vitaliy Gnoevykh, Ph.D. - This field aroused interest among future programmers. We decided to create training videos of various practical situations in the virtual reality mode that occur during medical examinations. A virtual clinic will allow students of medical programs to be trained in the algorithm of admitting patients by specialists of various professions - for the purpose of making a diagnosis and providing qualified medical care.
The simulator format created at USU has no analogues in Russia. It simulates the full cycle of interaction between the patient and the doctor - from treatment to recovery - and is cheaper in many times than similar products with more limited functionality.
