On September 26, in the hall of the Nobility Assembly of the Ulyanovsk Book
Palace, a presentation on the new Faust by Goethe published by the publishing
center of Ulyanovsk State University was made. The author of the translation,
the dean of the Faculty of Linguistics, International Cooperation and
Professional Communication Alexander Fefilov, lived and studied in Leipzig as a
student. The professor sought to bring the Russian text as close as possible to
the original in semantic, linguistic and figurative-poetic aspects.
Illustrations for the first volume of the
translation were created by Anastasia Patrina, a graduate of the Faculty of Culture
and Art. The second volume includes graphic works by Anatoly Fomenko, a professor at Moscow State University named
after M.V. Lomonosov. An exhibition of illustrations for the new edition of
Faust was arranged during the presentation and will continue its work in the
Museum of USU History (Sviyaga River Embankment, 40).
The event was held in the framework of the
strategic project of USU “Region. Culture. Reset” and was timed to coincide
with the 270th anniversary of the birth of the great German poet.
