Boris Kostishko participates in the meeting of the Council of the Russian Union of Rectors
The meeting was held in the Fundamental Library of Moscow State University.
This was the first meeting of the new RUR Council, which was elected at the RUR
Congress held in March.
The development of graduate school was the main
issue at the meeting. The keynote of the discussion was set by the President of
the Union, the Rector of Moscow State University, Viktor Sadovnichy. He called
for paying attention to the barriers to the development of graduate school, for
example, excessive complexity of the process of work on the thesis, the
uncertainty of the status of the graduate student - financial and reputational,
Sadovnichy presented proposals aimed at overcoming the existing problems. The
following measures such as strengthening the scientific component in graduate
school, strengthening the motivation both for learning and for defending a
thesis, improving the regulatory framework for awarding a degree and taking account
of its presence when forming a further educational and career path of a
specialist are among them.
Andrei Fursenko, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, noted that before further reforming the graduate school, it is necessary to clearly determine why the state, the university, and the person need it. This, in his opinion, will help to build the correct development trajectories. Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Marina Borovskaya paid special attention to the quality of training in graduate studies and, on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, once again expressed readiness to develop cooperation with the Rectors’ corps to improve education and science in our country.
