International experts discuss the internationalization of higher education at USU
The conference "Internationalization of Higher Education in
Russia" was held at the flagship university on April 29. The event was
organized by Ulyanovsk State University, the World Bank and the Ministry of
Education and Science of the Ulyanovsk Region. The participants were
representatives of the domestic and international scientific community.
The conference program combined two sessions -
“International Experience” and “Russian Experience”. The first one was opened
by a guest from France, Fabrice Enard - an international consultant
specializing in the assessment of higher education, qualifications and research
and development policy in the EU, OECD, UNESCO, UNICEF, UNFPA, the World Bank,
national, multilateral and non-governmental organizations. An expert in the
field of quality assurance in higher education made a presentation “The Path to
Successful Academic Mobility. Experience of foreign universities in enhancing
international attractiveness: best practices. ”
The conference participants heard a report from the World Bank leading specialist Xiaonian Cao on successful experience in increasing mobility in regional universities, a speech by Sergei Malinovsky, Deputy Director of the National Research University Higher School of Economics, about the Russian experience in internationalization of higher education and other guests.
Boris Kostishko, Rector of USU, presented a report on the role of the flagship university in the Ulyanovsk region in the development of international cooperation in the field of education and science: “We have about 1,500 international students. These numbers are increasing exponentially. Joint educational programs with leading universities in other countries have proven their effectiveness. Research is successfully being conducted with colleagues from the Czech Republic, Finland, USA. Effective interaction with foreign partners allows USU to occupy leading positions in international rankings. ”
USU Vice Rector for External Relations and Youth Policy Tatyana Kirillova moderated the Russian Experience session, as well as, together with the USU Rector, discussions on the experience of Russian universities in attracting and adapting international students.
