USU Rugby team wins its first match
Since 1872, rugby
teams from Oxford and Cambridge have been playing rugby with each other. The
matches of the two most famous English universities in the world has grown into
a national scale event, it is worth noting that the last 50 years the competition
has been held at the main stadium in England with the seating capacity of 80
thousand people – Twickenham. Now our
city can also boast of its student derby. On
December 3 a match between the rugby teams of USU and USPU was held in
Ulyanovsk for the first time. Students
of both universities started taking up rugby just 2 months ago, but already
held the first big game.
It is worth noting that the game was absolutely equal, and by the end of regular time in the match the score was 5-5. The fate of the match was sealed by Kirill Dorofeyev, a student of the USU Faculty of Physical Education and Rehabilitation, CMS for rugby, who made a decisive "attempt" in added time.
We congratulate our athletes on the victory!
