The flagship university of the region has solemnly opened its doors for first-year students
Every year September 1 begins with a solemn assembly for USU students and 2017 is not an exception. The fine sunny weather on this day was a pleasant bonus. Traditionally newly made students were welcomed by Boris Kostishko, the Rector of USU, Yury Polyanskov, the President of USU and also guests of honor - Alexander Smekalin, the Prime Minister of the Ulyanovsk region, Yvonne Piortsguen, the lecturer of the German Service of Academic Exchanges, Igor Bulanov, the deputy mayor of Ulyanovsk. Alexander Smekalin remarked that Knowledge Day was the first when USU celebrated it in the status of the flagship university of the region. The Prime Minister recalled that he had stood in such assemblies as a first-year student of the Faculty of Management exactly twenty years ago. He wished the university prosperity, and first-year students - progress in attaining scientific and career heights. The chief of the department of the Federal Antimonopoly Service across the Ulyanovsk region Gennady Spirchagov delivered an address to first-year students and handed the region's first medal "For Protection of the Competition" to the Rector of USU.
The celebration continued with student ID cards being given to young people who had gained 100 points at a Unified State Examination. To receive ID cards the winners of the multi-subject engineering Olympiad of school students "Star" were also invited to the stage. At the end of the official part of the event the former school students were given a symbolic key opening the door to the world of knowledge.
The celebration performance ended with a number of show items - the duet of electroviolins “Daimond”, the USU vocal group. By tradition the choir of students and teachers of the university performed the anthem of students Gaudeamus.
The holiday went on in classrooms with the ceremony of giving student ID cards, but before it to the sound of the USU anthem the heads of the university and guests of honor all went to the place of creating a traditional figure in the shape of a heart.
The holiday was a great success!
