USU opens new swimming pool
On November 26, USU held an opening ceremony for “Aquaclub”, a new sports center with a swimming pool, which had been constructed on the main USU campus.
The event was attended by numerous guests of honor, among them governor of Ulyanovsk region, Sergey Morozov, head of the education committee of Russian Legislative Assembly, Grigory Balykhin, deputy head of the physical education and sports committee of Russian Legislative Assembly, Vladislav Tretiak.
The ceremony was followed by an intercollegiate swimming competition, where USU team emerged as the winner. Besides, the guests enjoyed a waterpolo competition and an aqua aerobics show.
The center’s construction was made possible thanks to the “500 swimming pools” project launched by the United Russia party. “Aquaclub” took eight months to complete after the groundbreaking ceremony which was held last March.
The swimming pool boasts a unique technology of water treatment, which involves using ozone instead of chlorine. Another edge is accessibility for the handicapped, who may take advantage of a specially designed elevator to the second floor and swimming pool lifts.
“Aquaclub” will be open both to members of the university community and the general public.
