USU hosts National Physical Education Competition for schoolchildren
The majority of events took place at university sporting facilities, including the recently constructed sports center on the main campus.
The jury was headed by Nikolay Chesnokov, vice rector of Russian State University of Physical Education, Sports and Tourism, who was assisted by Vladimir Valtsev, dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Rehabilitation at USU.
Among the honorary guests at the opening ceremony was Vladimir Krylov, a 1988 Olympic champion in athletics, who was born and started his career in Ulyanovsk region.
The sixteen winners and thirty two runners-up were granted the opportunity to enter any physical education-related degree program anywhere in Russia without having to take obligatory entrance exams.
Among the prize-winners were two representatives of Ulyanovsk region, another two became the best in the basketball tournament.
Special prizes were also awarded to the youngest entrants and those who celebrated their birthdays during their stay in Ulyanovsk. Besides, each participant was presented a toy lion, the competition’s symbol.
