Prof. Wenke of Niederrhein University gives lectures to USU students
On March 2 and 3, USU hosted prof. Martin Wenke, dean of the Faculty of Economics, Niederrhein University (Germany), who gave a few lectures to students and faculty on current issues facing the global economy.
Among the audience were students of the School of Business, including those in the recently established MBA program, as well as economics majors from Russian-American and Russian-German faculties.
The guest speaker focused on the ways of dealing with the current economic slowdown in Germany implemented by the national government and municipalities, which are providing significant financial support to businesses and private citizens.
According to prof. Wenke, substantial funds are being allocated to higher education institutions, including Niederrhein University, which will receive serious financial backing in 2009 from the government of Northern Rhein-Westphalia, the Federal State it is located in.
The lectures were part of the academic exchange agreement between USU and Niederrhein University, which has been in effect for two years. Prof. Wenke arrived from Nizhny Novgorod, a major city 500 km away from Ulyanovsk, where he is serving as a guest lecturer at the School of Commerce.
