LG scholarships for young USU researchers
A delegation from the LG Technology Center in Moscow (LG TCM) led by director Shin Heung Soo visited USU on November 21 to meet with young scholars and present scholarship certificates to two post-graduate students of the physics and engineering faculty.
The company has recently been actively engaged in supporting research activities at Russian higher educational institutions and R&D centers located mostly in such major cities as Moscow, Saint-Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod. This year LG TCM has engaged USU researchers in three joint projects.
During the meeting with the company representatives, the $2000 scholarship winners talked about possible applications of their technological developments in electronics and household appliances. “My research is dedicated to exploring the characteristics of silicone semiconductor plates”, said Igor Yavtushenko. “They may be widely used in transistors, batteries and other devices. I got started on this project as a senior student and now continue working on it as part of my post-grad studies.”
The LG scholarship will enable the young scholars to buy new equipment for their unique explorations and present their research results at national and international conferences. The students are especially glad to realize that their ideas will soon be applied in practice.
